Heart Language

 

We have enjoyed the fact that there is an English speaking service at the church before the Muro service. It allows us to worship with the community in a meaningful way. There is a mix of other tribes present or traveling through the area who speak different languages.  Students who wish to improve their English also attend.

 

Being an Episcopal church, the ECS church service includes is a written liturgy.  We repeat the same wonderful prayers each week because they only have one version of the liturgy printed up.  Psalm 100, the Lord’s Prayer and the Apostle’s Creed are also included.  There are just a few songs in their repertoire, like “I have decided to follow Jesus” and “When the Saints go marching in”.   I believe they were taught decades ago to believers and are still sung with gusto and Sudanese flair.  I have heard Gaby singing them at home.  There seems to be new people preaching most weeks, each with varying grasps of Scripture and the English language.

 

As a team we have Bible studies in our weekly team meetings and worship times.  Listening to Tim Keller sermons on my ipod has been nourishing as well.  We will continue to gather with the community of believers at the cathedral.  We may have the opportunity to infuse new songs and prayers into the church worship.  Teammates have enjoyed preaching on occasion.  It is so important for us to be able to praise God and be taught in our own heart language. By it we are fed and renewed.
