West End Presbyterian Church in Richmond, Virginia has been with us from the beginning. One of their Pastors, Kevin G. came on our first exploratory trip of Mundri. Now he is back for the 3rd time. He brought a team last year and again this year. This year’s team is unique in that there is a woman, a Sudanese man and a 12 year old boy in the mix.
West End Pres shares their church building with the Sudanese believers of Sudan Christian Fellowship, Richmond. Through their interactions with these refugees, God has tied the heart of West End to Sudan. Sudan Christian Fellowship, like most Sudanese refugee communities throughout the world, also has its heart tied to their homeland. They pray for Sudan, send support to their loved ones and dream of what life could be like if peace prevails.
Shengwok left Sudan when he was 7 due to the civil war. Now he is back for the first time in 21 years to share how he has experienced God in a foreign land. He will also be able to see his extended family in another area of Southern Sudan. His 3 young children have never had the opportunity to reach the Sudan.
Coleman, Coleman, Coleman!! He is a boon to MK life. Agewise, he is wedged in-between my girls and being a boy, he delights Gaby’s heart. He is a real trooper, experiencing a new culture and land with a friendly demeaner. He extends his hand in greeting and confidently greets in the Moru language. The only kids my children interact with on a daily basis are themselves. Coleman has gotten them out of their rut and they’ve enjoyed riding bikes to the river and playing soccer barefoot in the rain.
I’ll keep you posted to how their week is progressing. Please pray for Bishop Bismark who is wrapped up in the red tape of getting OUR new vehicle licensed and registered. He’s been in Juba with the car for over a week with no end in sight and we’d really want him to be able to interact with this team before they leave next week.
