Rains!

                                       Rain has come full force to Mundri!

 We have been praying for rain, which ended up coming about 3 months late.  During the initial rains a few months ago, many people planted, but the crops died after the ensuing dry spell.  My neighbor had to replant his entire field, but now the gnuts and corn are coming up nicely. 

 Billy, who Gaby helped plant g-nuts when we first came, planted late enough that his crops survived the long dry spell. 

Around our compound, we've planted trees that we have the ability to water each night.  The grapefruit, lemon, tamarind, lucenea, mango, and date palm trees are still alive.  The date palm is our "Independence Tree".  Each compound was to plant a tree on July 9, 2011 to commemorate the day.  Liana, Acacia and I have also planted flowers and pumpkins.

Supposedly, some people in the community slaughtered a goat to appease the spirits just before the rains made a truly dramatic come back.  Pray for people in this confusion. May God build hearts of faith in His provision of rain and daily bread.  When the times are so desperate, don't we all want to grab at whatever will give us what we want?
