Today marked the first day of the Mundri Convention. Thousands of people are gathering for 3 days to hear preaching, choirs, singing,etc. Every few years, this convention with it's roots in the East African Revival of the 1930s, is held in a different location.
Many churches accross denominational lines have worked together to build shelters, erect tents, dig pit latrines, gather HUGE pots, and food to host such a large group. It is in the dry season so many could sleep outside. Some are sleeping in the primary school as well.
This morning, I've seen small 3-wheeled trucks with tanks of water heading to our borehole at the church office to bring it back full for the cooking, bathing, and drinking needs of the group.
With such a gathering of people, it was a fine time to open the convention with the ceremonial opening of the ECS primary school. The old and new schools are shown here.

The convention attendees were then welcomed by the Mundri commissioner and some of the present bishops. Michael and I were tag-teaming it and I got to hear the Govenor of Mundri share her hopes for the church to be full of prayer and practice peace and reconciliation.
Scripture reading and choir whose dancing caused the dust to engulf them in a cloud came next. The first speaker began after we had to start heading to the airstrip for Uganda. (Sad timing for us).
