Morning Images (10 February 2009)
Riding my bike in the cool morning air
Full moon still high in the sky
Dust clouds. In their centers are girls, soldiers, women wielding hand-brooms of grasses.
They are straight backed, bent forward from the hips, creating a neat compound
A newly finished dirt road, orange and flat
A metal bridge crossing high above the
Roadside teashops: Ladies placing metal teapots on coals, behind them are blue and yellow pyramids of tinned milk powder
A truck revving its engine
A slaughtered cow being skinned
A dirt and rock airfield crossing the road
Two phone towers, one with a light, one not yet
Girls pumping the water into the first jerry can in the line
Sun rising above the clouds
