A wonderful custom that Moru people have is that they remember to give thanks. On Saturday night our team was invited to the commissioner's home for a Thanksgiving celebration. They were thanking God before friends and family for their children and for the house they were able to finish constructing.
We gathered under tarps to keep off both the sun and drizzle for singing, a few speeches, and a fabulous meal. Then we all got a tour of the new house. The night before we had heard a cow lowing, and realized he'd be our dinner for this celebration.
One of the speakers mentioned that so often they gather under the temporary shelter of the tarps during times of mourning. They are constructed at homes during funerals. This night was different, a time for joy and thanksgiving.
It's good to remember and give thanks.
