Juba Talks

This week, the Southern Peoples Liberation Movement (SPLM) invited all political parties to Juba to discuss a way forward.  The National Congress Party (NCP), the party of the President Omar el-Beshir, did not attend because they were not consulted regarding the agenda.  20 opposition parties did attend what they are calling the All Political Parities Conference (APPC).

The APPC recommended the formation of a Truth & Reconciliation committee "to investigate all violations and atrocities against the rights of groups and individuals since independence; and take appropriate measures in response to these grievances and rights either by legal proceedings or material and moral compensation to bring about forgiveness and reconciliation and healing of wounds."

The APPC spells out what they understand to be "democratic transformation" which is mandated in the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) of 2005.  The AAPC desire the government of Sudan to make democratic  by Nov. 30, 2009 if they expect full participation in next years elections.
